The storage unit has an installed power of 24 MWh โ (6MWx4h), being built by Monsson, within a unique project, pending patenting, and uses domestically produced batteries. The objective visited by Minister Burduja is part of a larger storage capacity and represents precisely the first stage of it, which will have a total of 216 MWh. The concept developed in Constanศa county is modular and lends itself to large storage solutions, using the latest monitoring and safety technologies currently available in our country for this type of product. The monitoring and control software is created by the Monsson team and is usable for complex systems, both for hybrid solar, wind and storage projects, as well as for energy trading. The storage unit is charged with energy produced by the existing 50MW Wind Farm in operation, with photovoltaic energy produced by the 35MW Galbiori 2 Photovoltaic Park financed by PNRR, as well as from the national grid, when there is no wind or sun.
Monsson is currently developing the second phase of the 216MWh battery energy storage project, which consists of the construction of 96MWh, consisting of 3 storage blocks of 8 MW x 4 h each, in an advanced stage of construction, more exactly over 90%. Phase 3 of the project will most likely start in January 2025.
I am pleased to see in Constanศa county, in Mireasa, an example of what Romania can do in the green transition, with clean energy, for the next generations. We are talking about a storage capacity in batteries that allows us to store some of the intermittent, green energy that we have when the wind is blowing or when the sun is shining and use it at other time intervals and thus benefit from more secure energy , at a lower price, a truly clean energy. Here we are talking about an example of good practice, because 98% of all equipment is manufactured in the European Union, and over 60% is manufactured in our country. It is very important that the 35MW Galbiori 2 solar park, which is part of this energy complex, is financed by the Ministry of Energy through PNRR. It is one of the contracts we are proud of. Energy production and storage are key objectives of my mandate, because they will mean security and fair prices in bills. So far we have signed 297 contracts for new renewable energy production capacities, with a total value of more than 2 billion euros and an installed capacity of 1881 MW. We are on the last hundred meters with the storage investments from the PNRR โ we will soon sign the contracts for 1500 MWh in storage capacities. We will see these investments completed in 2025-2026,” said Sebastian Burduja, Minister of Energy.
