Monsson is pleased to announce the successful completion of acquisition of 100% of the shares in a 60MWh Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) project located in Eskilstuna Commune, Sweden. The transaction was concluded with Neoen, one of the world’s leading independent producers of renewable energy, as part of their strategy to refocus on larger-scale projects.
The project is fully permitted and scheduled to commence construction in June 2025.
This project represents Monsson’s initial implementation of its own BESS solution in Sweden, designed for the country’s demanding weather conditions. Our energy storage systems are engineered to ensure high system efficiency and availability for grid services and electricity trading. We aim to deploy over 200MWh of storage capacity in Sweden soon, laying the foundation for further investment and partnerships.
Monsson has been active in Sweden for over a decade, mainly through wind farm operation and maintenance services. With this acquisition, we are now positioning ourselves as a developer, service provider, and investor, committed to acquiring, building, and operating advanced energy storage systems across the Scandinavian market, said Joanna Lilliequist, CEO of Monsson Energy AB.
“We currently operate 72 MWh of energy storage and have another 348 MWh under construction. With the additional 60 MWh project in Eskilstuna, we’re aiming for a European storage portfolio over 1,000 MWh, including projects in Germany, Finland, Italy, and Croatia,” stated Sebastian Enache, Head of M&A at Monsson Group.
